Eddie Drennon, violin/arranger/composer

Mr. Drennon began his study of the violin at the age of ten with Ugo Carano and later with Samuel Applebaum. While at Howard University his primary studies were with Mark Fax, professor of music theory and Louia Vaughn Jones, professor of violin. Known for his work as a featured soloist with Orchestra Novel and composer of Let's Do the Latin Hustle, he has also performed in Africa, the Caribbean, Europe, and South America and recorded with a variety of artists and groups, including the Bo Diddley Blues Band, Lou Perez, Johnny Pacheco, Ray Barretto, Jose Fajardo, Ike and Tina Turner, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Willie Colon, Ruben Blades, Hector Lavoe, Luis "Perico" Ortiz and Buster Williams. During he 70's, Mr. Drennon composed, arranged, and produced disco hits which have been sampled by current artists including Biz Markie, Jamiroquai, Shaggy and the Avalanches. He scored a scene for the movie In the Line of Fire and composed music for Torn from the Headlines, a 1997 Helen Hayes award winning play. Mr. Drennon presently serves on the faculty at the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, the Levine School of Music, and George Washington University in Washington, D. C.
